While therapy and counseling have been mainstream for a long time, many people may still feel uncomfortable as they think about this option for themselves. Part of this may have to do with an outdated belief that if people go to therapy, they must be “crazy.” These beliefs were shaped long before we had the science to understand about mental health and wellness. Another part may have to do with the difficulty some of us have asking for help, and our belief that we are somehow weak and inadequate if we can’t do something ourselves.
While many of us could continue to struggle and eventually find our way out of a challenging situation, why should you stumble around when there is someone equipped to help guide all your effort?
As many in therapy already may know, it actually takes bravery to ask for help. In a do-it-yourself culture, were if we are not always happy we may feel like a failure, it takes courage to ask for support.

Major Life Transitions
As part of the human experience we will all have major life transitions which will affect us. These may include: getting a new job, or losing one, getting married or divorced, having a birth in the family, having a death of a loved one, moving from one space (office, house, town, country) to another, and many others. Research has shown that even “happy transitions” often come with a lot of stress. These are predictable times that many people benefit from therapy.
